Bridgewater College is a private, coeducational, four-year liberal-arts college located in Bridgewater, which is an unincorporated town in Rockingham County, in the US state of Virginia, with more than 5000 people, living within its limits (2000).
The college was established in 1880 and it is historically affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. It was founded by Daniel Christian Flory, and first started as Spring Creek Normal and Collegiate Institute, adopting its current name in 1889, whe it was also chartered by the Commonwealth of Virginia to grant undergraduate degrees.
Today, Bridgewater College offers its students 63 majors and minors, 11 concentrations/specializations, 9 pre-professional programs, and 4 dual degree programs, including teacher education and certification, and Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees.
Bridgewater's athletic teams are known as the Eagles and they compete in NCAA D III, Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Their distinctive colors are crimson and Vegas gold.
